The figure of the social animator is one of the most sought-after professions in today's labor market, as it manages to fit perfectly in both the social and health fields and with different types of users. The Social Animator is an operator who carries out various activities aimed at developing the potential of individuals or groups, promoting processes of prevention of discomfort and encouraging their social inclusion and participation.
To date, there is no qualification (whether diploma or degree) that qualifies one to become a social worker, but instead there are only regional courses and qualifications that will allow one to enter this profession on a regular basis.
Once the title of social animator is obtained, the learner with this qualification will be able to find employment in many areas, from public facilities (through competitions at asl, children's hospitals) to private facilities (family homes, communities for the disabled, day care centers, rsa...). His employment is in high demand, as the animator is a very important figure in all sectors of the social, health and welfare world. Among the skills required of him, in addition to training, it is necessary for a social animator to have a lot of patience and creativity and to be able to relate to different types of users (the elderly, children in difficulty, the disabled). With these, he should be able to organize and create many activities, such as: art workshops, theater performances, playful activities, musical and dance moments, cooking classes, gardening, and so on.
But what distinguishes a social animator from any other animator (e.g., those in the tourism industry) is his ability to carefully assess the residual skills of each user and then create individualized animative programs. In fact, the ultimate goal of his or her work is to stimulate and/or improve the residual skills of each patient and to achieve significant changes in both the physical sphere.
The objective of the training course is to create professional figures who find a place in public or private social services contexts of a residential or territorial type aimed at the prevention of marginality and social discomfort, social integration and participation, and the development of individual and collective potential, working in close collaboration with other professional figures and with the services of the territory. In social welfare facilities for the elderly or people with disabilities, the social animation technician plans and carries out activities aimed at enhancing leisure time with the goal of stimulating the expressiveness, communication, socialization and integration of individuals and groups. On the territory, working in teams with colleagues or other professional figures, he defines and implements interventions to promote participation and social integration and may also be involved in environmental or tourism education projects.
