Figure description
Performs all kinds of garments (jackets, pants, coats, overcoats, shirts) in complete autonomy of exercising the functions (cutting, sewing and ironing), mainly by hand and made to measure.
He/she is also involved in readjustments of finished garments and any stitching.
The tools and equipment used for this type of activity are: sewing machines, cutters, needles, yarn, scissors, irons, and ironing machines.
Type of labor relations
The activity is carried out as a self-employed owner and in some cases as an employee of tailoring workshops.
Contractual classification
In most cases he is a self-employed artisan worker; in some cases he may be a collaborator or employee of an artisan workshop to which the C.C.N.L.Textile Clothing Footwear Artisans, 4th level of classification applies.
Organizational placement
Works mainly in tailors' shops. The self-employed worker does not depend on other figures and works closely with customers; in the case of an employee or collaborative relationship, he or she is accountable to the master tailor. In general, he or she follows the operational and technical guidelines provided by the craft trade associations to regulate his or her relationship with customers with respect to working hours and opening hours to the public and with respect to regulatory specifications.
Market opportunities
It is a figure that has seen a major downsizing over the years due to the development of industrial mass production. Only recently with the rediscovery of the tailored suit (as an element of social differentiation) is this figure receiving renewed attention in the marketplace.
